My WebView app was rejected for "Minimal Functionality". What did you change to get approved?

Just got hit with the dreaded '4.2 Minimum Functionality' rejection from Apple. The app is a wrapper for our SaaS dashboard. We already have responsive web pages and everything works fine, but Apple's reviewer says it does not offer a unique app experience.

What did you guys add to get past this? Do I need to add fully native views, or is there a way to satisfy them with features like native navigation, push alerts, or local storage integrations?

Exactly what Kevin said. Also, make sure to hide your website's header and footer. If your web app shows a hamburger menu and header, and your wrapper also has a native header, it looks messy and screams 'I am a website'. Use CSS injection via the app builder to hide header, footer, nav elements, and let Nativine's native header handle it.

I got hit with this last month. The absolute key is to make it not feel like a website in Safari. We added:

  • A native bottom navigation bar. We set it up so navigating tabs loads different subpages of our web app.

  • Native push alerts (we integrated OneSignal).

  • Haptic feedback on button clicks.

    • Once we added the native bottom nav, the app felt much more like an app, and we got approved on the next submission. Apple really hates when users see the web browser header/footer or standard browser scroll bounce.

    Thanks both! I will try hiding the web header and enabling Nativine's native bottom navigation. Did you also have to submit a video demo showing native features?

    No, a video demo wasn't needed, but in the App Review Notes, we explicitly listed the native features we integrated: 'Uses native WKWebView components with custom navigation controllers, offline caching, and native iOS push notification handlers.' This helps direct the reviewer's attention.
